Is Ryuk the villain?
Type of Villain interesting. Ryuk is
the deuteragonist of the anime/manga series Death Note. He was the one who inadvertently gave Light Yagami the Death Note and instigated his killing spree. He would later become the main antagonist of the one shot special chapter, set after the events of the original series.

Ryuk didn't die when he write Light's name in the deathnote. actually its because rem liked misa and that ryuk had no feelings for light, and rem used the death note to prolong misa's life, while shinigami are supposed to shorten life.
