Did Rei die in Evangelion?
Rei I was the very first incarnation
and was murdered by Naoko Akagi in 2010 (as shown in Episode 21). ... She dies when she sacrifices herself and Unit-00 to destroy Armisael in episode 23. Rei III is seen from the second half of episode 23 through to The End of Evangelion.

Is Rei in love with Gendo?
Rei 2. Rei 2 is perhaps
the most loyal of the Rei clones towards Gendo, and Gendo once does demonstrate his feelings for Rei by going and personally rescuing her from the superheated entry plug, burning his own hands in the process.

Rei DIDN'T become god, Shinji did, haven't you been paying attention ;) If Rei wouldn't have 'betrayed' Gendo, Gendo would have become God. This statement is backed up by the fact Shinji decided that the world needed to have individuals, because else, there would be no reason to live (and the other things he said).
