“Alita: Battle Angel” is based on the manga series Gunnm, which actually has not one, not two, but three different manga series.
The first series, Gunnm, is finished already. The second series, Gunnm: Last Order also finished in 2014. The third series, Gunnm: Martian Chronicle, is still ongoing.

Is Alita manga good?
Overall,
Alita is an excellent manga. It's very much a tale of two halves. The first part, books 1–4 is the story of Alita finding her place in the world. She encounters joy and tragedy, multiple challenges, and tries to figure out where she belongs.
Is Hugo in the Alita manga?
Hugo's fate in the
movie seems to be the same as in the manga series, but at least in the movie his love for Alita was real, rather than something he manipulated for his own gain. As for whether or not that makes his tragic death at the end of the movie more heartbreaking, that's up to you.
Is Battle Angel Alita Last Order worth reading?
Yes it's worth it, it really is a giant tournament arc but I did enjoy it for what it was. it's not like the original story but I liked the characters still. I stopped LO halfway through volume 3. First volume is really good.
